(In 1957, when i was a
child, my father shifted to this place. He was an advocate and he used to go through
case files night long. By ten o'clock in the nights, he will shut all doors and
windows of our home and murmur about the stink. Later, I came to know about
Lāloor issue by the municipality about stool which was dumping in Lāloor. I
remember the struggles organized by my father and Aryan namboodiri.) Rema.N.K,

stool dumping.

കിട്ടുന്ന വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാനും പറ്റില്ല. ഒരു ജാതി പൊട്ട മരുന്നിന്‍റെ മണം പോലത്തെ വെള്ളമാണ് കിട്ടുക ഞങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്. ഒരു കൊതുക് കടിച്ചാല്‍ മണിക്കൂറോളം മാന്തും വേണം; ചോര പൊടിഞ്ഞാലും അത് നിക്കില്ല. പിന്നെ, ഇവിടത്തെ ജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കാണെങ്കില്‍ ആസ്മ. ഇരുപത്തിനാലു മണിക്കൂറും ആശുപത്രീല് കേറാനും ഇറങ്ങാനും ഉള്ള നേരള്ളൂ. ഒരു ചെറിയ കുട്ടീണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ ആ കുട്ടിക്കു വരെ ആസ്മയാണ്. അതു പോലെ, വെള്ളം കേറിയ ആ അവസരത്തില്, എല്ലാ വീട്ടിലും വെള്ളം കേറി. ചിലരുടെ വീടൊക്കെ ഇടിഞ്ഞുപൊളിഞ്ഞു വീണു. വേനല്‍കാലത്ത് തീയിട്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ പൊക. ആ പൊക ശ്വസിച്ച് ക്ടാങ്ങള് കൊറെ ആസ്പത്രീലായിരുന്നു. കൊറെ പേരെ ഞങ്ങള്‍ മാറ്റി താമസിപ്പിച്ചു. രണ്ട് മാസത്തോളം നിന്ന് കത്തി. ആ പൊകയും കൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങളിവിടെ ജീവിച്ചു. എത്രനാള്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ വല്ലോരടുയും വീട്ടില് താമസിക്കും ഞങ്ങളുടെ വീടൊക്കെ ഇട്ടെറിഞ്ഞിട്ട്.
(The water is not pure and it smell like medicine. Mosquito bites are very painful and should scratch for a long time. And, non stop bleeding. Here, almost everybody is suffering from asthma. They can’t leave hospital for long here, even a kid has asthma. At the time of heavy rains and flooding, many houses fell down. When wastes were burned in summer, some kids had to be hospitalized. The fire prolonged for two months and we lived here breathing thick smoke. How many days we could live in other houses by leaving our houses…?) K.K.Omana

ഉറുമ്പ്, കൊതു, മൂട്ട എല്ലാം ഉണ്ട്. ഇതൊക്കെ കടിച്ചിട്ട് സഹിച്ചിരിക്ക്യാണ്. മേലൊക്കെ തരുതരുന്നാണ് പൊന്തിയിരിക്കണത്. (Insects
like ants, mosquitoes and bugs are attacking us. we bear all. Skin problem is

കൈ മടക്കാന്‍ പറ്റണില്ല. നീര്‍ത്താന്‍ പറ്റണില്ല. ഒരു പാത്രം കയ്യോണ്ട് എടുക്കാന്‍ പറ്റാത്ത രൂപത്തിലായി. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇടക്ക് ഓരോത്തര്‍ക്കും ഉണ്ടാവുന്നുണ്ട്. (All are suffering from body pain and bone problems. I can’t even pick a pot.) M.C.Mary

ഞങ്ങള്‍ കുടിക്കുന്ന വെള്ളത്തില്‍, പൈപ്പ് വെള്ളത്തില്‍ മലിനീകരണമുണ്ട്. പുറത്തെ മലിനീകരണം വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നതിനു മുന്‍പ് കുടിവെള്ളത്തിലെ മലിനീകരണമൊന്നു വൃത്തിയാക്കേണ്ടേ. (There is dirt even in drinking water supplied through public taps. It has to be cleaned first…) Navamy
